“There’s heart and soul in Mr. Keberle’s tunes” – Nate Chinen, NY Times

“Keberle’s hit upon something with his working band, a quartet called Catharsis” – Patrick Jarenwattananon, NPR

First off, a heartfelt thank you to all who purchased copies of Into the Zone.  Your interest and support means a great deal to me – a performing artist is nothing without an audience! I’ve been overwhelmed with the response from fans and critics alike.  You can read some select press quotes below and if you haven’t yet purchased a copy you can do so at the Greenleaf Music Store.

I’d also like to thank those of you who voted in this year’s Downbeat Reader’s Poll.  I am incredibly honored to be included in such prestigious company, surrounded by heroes, legends, mentors, friends and colleagues.

A trombonist and composer with far-ranging credentials, Ryan Keberle is onto something with Catharsis, his update of a pianoless postbop quartet.”
Nate Chinen, The New York Times

[I]n the last few years [Keberle has] seriously stepped out on his own, creating warm small-group music that’s front-loaded with melody; there’s also plenty of harmonic movement, but his remarkable rapport with trumpeter Mike Rodriguez never lets technique get in the way of tunefulness.
Peter Margasak, The Chicago Reader

“accessible and thoughtful, lyrical and cerebral…Keberle and his bandmates weave their voices together with supple ease and understated grace to conjure a collective sound that embraces the listener while rewarding closer attention.”
Shaun Brady, Downbeat

“[Camila Meza] adds new layers of emotional complexity and color to Cole Porter’s “Easy To Love,” and her wordless utterances elsewhere add to the surprisingly rich harmonies created by such a small outfit. In short, she’s the perfect vocal reflection of the Keberle aesthetic.” – All About Jazz

“[Keberle] is, at heart, an excellent arranger and an underrated soloist of contagious creativity, capable of making everyone feel at home.”
– Britt Robson, Wondering Sound

“A very fine new album” – Jon Garelick

NY Times review October ’14

Catharsis on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert

Catharsis had an eventful fall weekend! NPR released our performance on the world’s biggest, tiny stage captured in beautiful picture and sound – Tiny Desk Concerts. We played Sufjan Stevens’ “Sister” and two of my originals, “Gallop” and “Zone”. In Sunday’s New York Times we were honored by Nate Chinen’s review of Into the Zone: “There’s heart and soul in Mr. Keberle’s tunes – even at their trickiest, as in a workout with a wry title, Without a Thought.”

You can purchase Into the Zone at either online retailer:

“[Keberle’s] hit upon something with his working band, a quartet called Catharsis… That lineup indulges the intersecting parts of his tunes, but preserves the melodic through-lines and swinging undertow” – Patrick Jarenwattananon, NPR

I am thrilled to announce that my new record, Into the Zone, is officially released TODAY! I am so excited to share this music with you all and couldn’t have done it without the help of some very special people in my life.

I’d like to thank my band – Mike Rodriguez, Jorge Roeder, and Eric Doob – for their unsurpassed musicality, dedication and guidance. Thanks to Camila Meza for her willingness to indulge the learning curve that is writing for voice and her soulfully honest musicianship. Thanks to Scott Robinson for inspiring me to strive for true musical spontaneity and to embrace both the heart and the brain when it comes to making music. Thanks to Dave Douglas and Greenleaf Music for believing in this music. Thanks to Chris Allen at Sear Sound and Alex Venguer who captured the music beautifully giving it depth and balance. Thanks to Tyler McDiarmid who made the music shimmer. Thanks to Maddy Sturm who, as she has done for all of my records, translated the music into beautiful imagery and color. Thanks to Matt Merewitz and Fully Altered Media for their support and help in navigating the 21st century jazz industry. Thanks to all my family and friends and, most importantly, to the person who keeps me honest, not just in my musical life but in everything that I do, my incredible wife, Erica.
