Happy New Year! Here’s a press release pertaining to the next couple of months worth of news. Exciting stuff!
In-demand and multi-faceted jazz trombonist and composer, Ryan Keberle, will unveil his newest project, Ryan Keberle and Catharsis, in a series of performances around the tri-state area this February. Ryan Keberle and Catharsis, a “piano-less” quartet highlighting Keberle’s tuneful compositions and emotive arrangements in a bluesy, groove based, latin-jazz influenced atmosphere, features three of the jazz world’s most notable up-and-coming voices: Mike Rodriguez on trumpet, Jorge Roeder on bass, and Eric Doob on drums.
Fresh off one of his busiest years to date, 2011 saw Ryan tour the world with Indie-Rock legend Sufjan Stevens, play some of the world’s great concert halls with Maria Schneider, perform for the next Woody Allen film’s soundtrack, and once again perform on NBC with the Saturday Night Live House band; a year indicative of Keberle’s musically diverse career. Mr. Keberle looks to bring together these musically disparate worlds in the formation of Ryan Keberle and Catharsis combining the infectious songwriting of Sufjan Stevens, the emotional power and beauty of Maria Schneider, the rhythm and blues of Lenny Picket and the SNL band, and even the sounds of New York’s Latin jazz scene, in which Mr. Keberle also actively participates in. The band members of Catharsis bring an impressive wealth of experience playing an integral role in many of the top jazz and Latin jazz ensembles including the bands of Charlie Haden, Gary Burton, Julian Lage, Christian Scott, Paquito D’Rivera, and Gonzalo Rubulcaba.
The band will record their debut CD in March, Mr. Keberle’s third as a leader.
